WDPS - Brief details about us. (site updated to 12 November 2009)
WDPS NEWS
A reminder of the significant news item that WDPS have now changed both the venue and meeting frequency for the 2009 winter season. WDPS now meet at our new venue, Weymouth Centenary Club (Link revised Nov 09) with meetings on a fortnightly basis alternating with their (I.e. the WCC) Tuesday auction nights. The venue is more central, has full disabled access provision, a bar, and free parking. We left the WRUFC in May 2009 after several good years there but the new venue offers even better facilities.
Photography tutorials - Our programme for Summer 2009 included an "on-site" open tutorial evening for memebrs to discuss composition options and our 2009/10 indoor programme also features topics geared to improving techniques for all ability levels from beginner upwards.
2009/10 Winter programme - Our Winter Programme in 2009/10 was agreed at the AGM and is now on-line.
About the Society
This is our home page. We are the Weymouth & District Photographic Society. We are a Photographic Society, (or Camera Club to use another description) for all who are interested in Photography in the South West Dorset area around Portland, Weymouth and Dorchester. Photography and the photographic arts, whether undertaken with traditional film cameras or modern digital models, is a wide ranging subject and our group encompasses all. If you are a photographer yourself, or are simply interested in viewing the best work of other photographers and learning from it, come along and join us.
The Society has a varied programme with a mix of speakers and members competitions . These competitions cater for all ability levels, including novice, and in the “unmounted prints” section the only equipment you need in order to enter is a camera! WDPS also compete successfully in various regional and inter-club competitions. For the summer we have a programme of visits to local beauty spots to take photographs and socialise. Subscriptions are £27.00pa for 200/109 and renewals will be due at the start of the winter indoor season; any new members joining in advance during the summer period i.e. after the Annual AGM are credited with the May - Aug period at no extra charge. WDPS members will also need to join the Centenary Club but will then also have full use of that club all year round.
Where do we meet?
We meet weekly on alternate Tuesday evenings from the early Autumn through to early summer with a summer programme too. Please note for 2009/10 we will not be at the Weymouth Rugby Club as we have moved our base to the Weymouth Centenary Club. The club has ample free parking but is a longish walk from the nearest public transport link. Nearest bus stop is the First Bus Depot (No 1 and No 8 services) however unless you know the way through to Alexander Bridge from the Dorchester Road stops on Lodmoor Hill users of the No 2 service will need to walk from the Kings Statue. It is appreciated that these public transport links to the venue leave visitors with a longish walk therefore if you wish to attend, but have no car, please contact one of the Association officers shown below as arrangements for a lift may well be possible.
- So to sum up - what are we - a camera users club - where/when do we meet - Alternate Tuesday evenings at 7:30 at the Weymouth Centenary Club. (Indoor season September to May)
